We all love, admire and relate to these four glamorous New York City girls. So, I’m sitting and writing these lines now, pretending to be Carrie Bradshaw, and I’m thinking about how much of a brand this HBO show has become. We copy their styles, borrow their lines and some of us are even drinking flirtinis and going out in groups of four. We are them. And I’m saying that in the most positive way because if there is something these girls have taught us it’s  that we can be anything we want. Lusty Samantha, romantic Charlotte, down to earth Miranda or zany Carrie. In fact, we already have a little bit of all of them inside, we just needed something to get it out on the top.

I’ve read yesterday that the upcoming sequel, Sex and The City 2, boosted lingerie sales, too. Gals in their 40’s and 50′s started shopping for hot lingerie like crazy, and it’s all because these 4 ladies refused to get down from the big screen despite the fact that they are “too old”, as some critics have put it. These four brave actresses showed the world that there is nothing wrong in being 40 and up and wearing sexy lingerie. And I’m really  glad that to hear that so many women followed their example because if there is something I’m trying to do here, it’s that- writing for women and about them. Writing about thongs, swimsuits, sexy lingerie and all those things that make us feel more sexy and more confident.

We have been involved in Carrie, Sam, Miranda and Charlotte’s lives, and although some might say it’s just a TV show, nobody can’t deny that so many years of watching the girls gave us the chance to see them grow. The truth is that although girls have gotten older, the City hasn’t stopped being Sexy. Fabulous fashion, great adventures, lingerie scenes or hot, nude ones- We’ve seen them all. They showed us what being a girl is all about and gave us the courage to look at ourselves in the mirror and say, “You are just fabulous, darling.”

Although adult shops are not exactly the best place in the world to look for a comfy lingerie set, they might be a useful stop on your “special occasion lingerie” shopping route. I have to say “maybe” because I’ve been to a couple of these shops and the sets I found in some of them were everything but sexy. In fact, some lingerie sets were so cheap, tasteless and awful that I wouldn’t even dare putting a picture up here. You just don’t want to see that, believe me. I can’t believe somebody actually buys that stuff and the thought of that offends me . A woman is a delicate piece of the human specie and it shouldn’t be put in cheap, synthetic, trashy sets that are designed to immediately show everything. I’m not a feminist, I’m just being real.

However, not everything I found in those shops was bad. In fact, some of the sets were actually really hot and I caught myself thinking about buying them. Now, I’m not really into role-play, but I liked some sexy costumes, like a Playboy bunny costume, for example. I mean, Playboy bunnies are hot, right? I’ve seen some cheap versions of this one and I got really surprised when I found something that  looks totally like the actual Playboy bunny outfit. A hot costume like this could come handy if you’re planning on giving your loved one a true Playboy mansion experience.

I would also like to mention leather corsets and sincerely suggest you not to buy them unless you’re willing to spend your kid’s (or sibling’s) college fund money. Why? Because you’ll end up looking like a scary lady from fetish movies and I don’t think that’s the look you are going for. Right? Now, this here is the example of a perfectly done leather corset and I think a bold, perfectly fitted piece like this could be worn even outside the bedroom. Just think about it, low rise jeans, plus some killer heels, plus this corset, and you’ve got yourself a Lady Gaga-ish party outfit in which you won’t go unnoticed. Now, the bad thing is that, in order to get a hot, stylish piece like this,  you need to have Lady Gaga’s budget, too.

It feels good to be a woman! And I’m not saying that just because we can wear pink combined with a lot of rhinestones without our male friends teasing us for that. Think about all those fine fabrics and design we get to wear. Just think about baby dolls… You understand what I’m saying? I’m sure you do because, otherwise, you would‘t be reading this.

Well, I was curious to know who was the genius inventor of this hot piece of lingerie so I did a bit of a research. And you won’t believe what I found out! Baby dolls were actually designed as a way to save money during the Great Depression in 1930′s.

Nightwear designers figured out a way to minimize the cost by using less fabric and creating shorter nightgowns. Women loved it, men loved it and here we are now, almost a whole century later, still going crazy about baby dolls. They have changed a lot since then, the fabrics used to create them became better, they became sexier and the styles have evolved so, now, we have a lot to choose from. We can be glamorous, playful, girly. We can even pick a sexy baby doll costume and become nurses or flight attendants for a night. So baby dolls are indeed a mighty piece of lingerie!

Here, I just had to share this with you. This pink polka dot baby doll is what I would call the best of both worlds. It’s made from cotton and it’s totally comfortable but still amazingly hot. A cute piece of lingerie like this says, “I’m cute, relaxed and fun to be with, but I have a wild side, too.”

Now, If you want to spice things up in the bedroom and show him who’s the hot diva he should be daydreaming about, this sheer baby doll is the perfect buy. The combination of pink satin details, lace cups and a completely see-through mesh just screams HOT. At least that’s the way I’m hearing it. What do you think? Believe it or not, one study has proved that more than 80% of women wear the wrong bra size. I have to say that I’m not even a bit surprised because I can list a few examples myself. Small busted girls sometimes do it hoping a bigger and over-padded bra will help the breasts appear bigger while large busted ones sometimes can’t find a sexy bra in their size which forces them to suffer the inconvenience of wearing the size that doesn’t fit their proportions.

If you can relate to this then I should warn you that lingerie should not only look good but be comfortable, too! And a bad chosen size doesn’t exactly provide either of that. There are many health issues regarding this, too. Loose and unsupporting bras can cause back pain and serious back problems later in life while tight and over-padded bras can damage breast tissue.

A good piece of lingerie will fit you the best if it’s in your size so choose wisely. Never buy in a hurry thinking “Ok, it’ll work-I’ll make it work“. Don’t just check the label for your size, not all bras are the same, so you have to try it on before you buy it. No excuses. If you don’t have the time to do the shopping now, leave it for another day, but don’t spend your money on something your breasts will not be comfortable in.

Measure, check and recheck. If you didn’t know, a cup size is not a constant measure. It changes during  life, so if you started noticing that your lingerie isn’t comfortable as it used to be, it may be time to check if you bra size has changed slightly. How am I supposed to know that?-you may ask. Well, it doesn’t exactly take a rocket scientist, you just need to listen to your body. Do you feel sudden relief when you take your bra off? Do your breasts hurt? If your answer is “Yes” then you should definitely check your size again.

If I’m going to talk about lingerie, I just can’t forget to mention self-adhesive bras. That would be rude, considering the fact that they  have been an “ace up my sleeve” for many years now. All that hot strapless, backless dresses and daring tops just don’t fit so good with regular bras so I have to have respect for these thingies that let me have it all- the support, the lift and extra volume, without unnecessary straps.

The first self adhesive solution were tape-like strips and, although the general idea was good and they worked pretty much ok, the process of taking the strips off was a bit uncomfortable and, for some women, even painful. Things, however, got much better when this new solution was introduced in 2002. Since then, these a bit unconventional pieces of lingerie have been sold in so many copies that I can freely say this: If they were a record, they would be a multiplatinum one.

The basic style consists of two silicone self adhesive cups with a front hook, like this one I found at  Victoria’s Secret. Once you place and hook the bra it should adhere completely, provide natural push up effect and give you about six hours of support like you’re wearing a normal bra. Don’t worry, it’s not Cinderella and it won’t fall off as soon as the sixth hour finishes. In fact, I can confirm that it’ll stay on long after that. Although, you may want to check it once in a while and press to make sure any parts that may have gotten unglued stick to the skin again.

This other version that I found at JCPenney is a little bit different as it is made from memory foam and gives better support and coverage. Unlike the first one, this really looks like a bra and hot mammas with a D cup (that need support and hold rather than a volume increase) could benefit from it also. The principle is pretty much the same because the bra has silicone adhesive on the inside and once you get used to this whole “center-glue-push-hold” procedure, it will take you just a few seconds to put it on. Very simple and extremely effective.

I’ve recently read that a very big TV station (which I will not name here because I think they’ve already got plenty of publicity) refused to air a plus size lingerie commercial. The reason? Some hot shots probably decided that plus size lingerie is not presentable! Can you believe that arrogance! Now, let me tell you something- Plus size fashion is sexy. There is place for improvements, off course, because curvy ladies often say they have troubles finding good clothes in their size. But if a woman has that confident posture, if she moves sexy, anything she wears will look hot on her. Here, I’m not talking specifically about thin or curvy ladies- I say ANY woman and I stand firmly in that opinion as I’ve seen it with my own eyes.

Need proof?

Proof number 1: This absolutely glamorous black lingerie set. As you can see, this girl right here doesn’t have that tiny model proportions and yet it fits her perfectly. The corset top shapes up and balances the figure and, to be honest, my opinion is that corsets look  better on real women then on bony models. The whole point of a corset is to tighten and shrink the waist and trying to tighten or shrink a size 0 really doesn’t make any sense!

Proof number 2- This yaw-dropping brunette in a beautiful retro satin baby doll. I love retro styles and prints and let’s face it, 40’s and 50’s were the years that promoted that feminine, curvy bodies. Everybody’s trying to copy that style now but they are forgetting one thing- You need to have curves to look like a pin-up girl.

Proof number 3- Here’s a hot, plum-colored mash set and a lovely lady modeling it. I like the contrast of a nice flowing baby doll top and a micro thong. You just can’t not like this one, the fabric falls so nicely and the color is prefect, too.

Basically all the models I showed here are completely regular ones, they are available in all sizes and are not targeted for plus size specifically. So, what does this prove? That women, regardless the size, basically wear similar lingerie. I don’t know whose idea was to put plus size gals into shapeless togas but, as you can see, it wasn’t really a good one

How is your recycling going? Have you switched on alternative energy sources? How green are you ready to go, girls? Designers are obviously ready to go all the way and, thanks to that, now we have a whole bunch of eco-friendly underwear collections. As much as I understand this whole concept, the point is to have natural and more comfortable underwear, while making an effort to save the planet in the same time. So, wearing lingerie made from hemp, organic cotton, recycled materials, natural silk and bamboo is promoted more healthy. Ok, I understand the cotton and the silk part, could live with bamboo and hemp, but I would be grateful if somebody could, please, explain me what recycled materials have to do with all that?

I do prefer natural materials and the thought of having a 100% PVC-free lingerie does sound appealing. You can never be too sure these days because I’ve noticed that even the most prestigious brands use more and more synthetic materials in their lingerie collections. Everything is starting to turn into plastic and, to tell you the truth, I’m a little bit allergic to plastic. But really!

Now, I’ve been checking this eco lingerie a little bit and although there are some stuff I wouldn’t like to be caught dead in, some of it is really good in terms of both style and quality. Like this silk set I found on eco-boudoir, for example. Most of the stuff are made from either pure silk or organic cotton (or the combination of both) and to be quite honest, they really look glamorous and chic. This fabulous, deep red bra and panties set is so sexy

and now I’m laughing at myself because, when I heard of eco-friendly undies, I imagined something rough, plain and ugly. And here’s another little something to prove me wrong! A delicate soft pink baby doll made from 100% organic azalea cotton. Amazing, right? This green thingy might not be such a bad thing after all!

Although… I will still have to do a little bit of a research regarding that “recycled materials” part.
